Dr. Eli Kotler MBBS MPM FRANZCP Cert. Old Age Psych. AFRACMA.
Eli is a Psychiatrist who specialises in addictive and cognitive disorders and has a strong interest in personality disorders.
Dr. Eli is the Medical Director at Malvern Private Hospital, and holds an Associate Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators.
Dr. Eli focuses is on the underlying psychological and personality factors which predispose people to, and maintain, addictions.
He is passionate about helping people with addictions, to achieve recovery through greater understanding of their own psychology and personalities, Eli places self-awareness and insight at the center of recovery.
Eli enjoys teaching these ideas to both fellow addiction specialists and medical students, and lectures at both National and International conferences about these complex psychological factors.
He began his Psychiatry career, pursuing brain research and was subsequently awarded the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (RANZCP) Trainee Prize for Research.
He remains engaged in neuroscientific research, and has been involved in over ten international medical intervention trials for neurodegenerative diseases, being a Principal Investigator in five of these trials.
Eli was also awarded the RANZCP prize for advanced training in Psychogeriatric, for original work on the confluence of Major Depression and Neurodegenerative Diseases.
Dr. Eli trained in medicine and later psychiatry through the Alfred Hospital and their affiliates. He has continued this connection, and is currently an adjunct lecturer for Alfred Hospital medical students, through Monash University. Dr. Eli also oversees the addiction research conducted with patients from Malvern Private Hospital, in conjunction with Alfred Hospital and Monash University.
Dr. Eli is a popular educator and has been awarded the Alfred Hospital award for Best Educator for Psychiatry.
